Meet Peng


Peng You is an Internationally recognized Tai Chi Master, entrepreneur, travel tour leader and Councillor-at-Large for the City of Thunder Bay who has consistently contributed to the community that he loves since moving to Thunder Bay in 1990. He owns and operates the Peng You International Tai Chi Academy in addition to his Council duties and service on the Community Economic Development Commission Board, Sister Cities Committee, Thunder Bay Chinese-Canadian Association and the Thunder Bay Martial Arts Council.

Peng spearheaded the development of the International Tai Chi Park and facilitated the donation of three historic Tai Chi statues by Sister City Jiaozuo, China that picturesquely sit within the park.  He also was involved with arranging several monumental Tai Chi events such as the World Tai Chi Conference, annual Canada Day Tai Chi demonstrations, Tai Chi in the Park every summer, as well as Tai Chi demonstrations at numerous other events. Additionally, he secured the 2022 National Wushu Championship and the 2024 Word Tai Chi Championships to be hosted in Thunder Bay.

Peng is passionate about giving back to the community and is committed to building a strong, viable and prosperous community for Thunder Bay and the surrounding communities in the Superior-North riding. He is well connected with seniors, youth, business sectors and Aboriginal communities and organizations in his community.

Peng’s strong business acumen and passion for giving back to his community will make him an excellent representative for the great riding of Thunder Bay–Superior North. As a long-time resident and small business owner in Northern Ontario, Peng knows firsthand that his community has unique needs that require unique solutions. If elected, he will give bring the key issues and opportunities that matter to the region and those who live there to the provincial agenda.

Additionally, Peng obtained a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree in Education at Beijing Normal University, China and is the proud recipient of the 2001 Chinese-Canadian Entrepreneurs Award and the 2002 Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Award.
